Ghosu Bird Sanctuary is located at Ghukiye village 8 kilometers away from Zunheboto district of Nagaland. It provides an amazing place to sight some of the rarest endangered species of avifauna. This bird sanctuary is entirely maintained by the village community (Ghukiye Village) with strict anti-poaching laws. It is a place where migratory birds flock during the winter and a habitat of more than twenty species of endangered birds. Migratory birds are sighted in the month of June till November. The earlier Naga habit of rampant hunting and poaching in this area has now been strictly prohibited by laws drafted by the Village Community.

The uniqueness of this bird sanctuary is the maintenance of the sanctuary by the village community itself. With the help of the Government of Nagaland a rest house has been constructed few kilometers away from the sanctuary, and a watch tower for the convenience of the tourists where one can have a wonderful view of various migratory birds.

Species recorded at Ghosu Bird Sanctuary, Nagaland are Slaty-bellied Tesia, Great-Eared Nightjar, Rufescent, Prinia, Himalayan Black Bulbul, Oriental Magpie Robin, Spot-breasted Scimitar, little Bunting, Cuckoo, Grey-Hooded Warbler.

One can hire a taxi from Zunheboto to reach Ghosu Bird Sanctuary. Monsoons are considered to be the best time to visit here and enjoy greenery in surrounding along with bird watching.
