Poovar Island is a sanctuary for those seeking solitude. This small island is bordered by backwaters and the Neyyar River near its confluence with the Arabian Sea. Poovar is located about 30 kilometers south of Trivandrum and can only be reached by boat. Kovalam Beach is just 12 km away. From there, a short walk will bring you to a place famous for its traditional martial arts. The area has a centuries-old tradition of maintaining Kalarippayattu, Kerala's unique self-defense system.
