- Description
Naimisharanya is mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures such as the Mahabharata, Puranas, and Ramayana. It is recognized as one of the 108 Divya Desams, sacred sites dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Naimisharanya is adorned with temples, ashrams, ponds (kunds), and historic sites associated with mythological events and revered saints. Among the prominent attractions in Naimisharanya is the Chakra Tirth, where it is believed that Lord Brahma's divine wheel (chakra) landed, guiding the sage Shaunak and his 88000 disciples in their pursuit of knowledge. Taking a holy dip in the Chakra Tirth is considered purifying and absolving one of past misdeeds and sins.
