Janapao is a pastoral land in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh, with total geographical area of 701.41 hectare and total population of 753 people, out of which 371 are male and 354 are female. It is situated in the hills of Malwa Plateau at an altitude of 881 meters above sea level and it is the highest peak surrounded by dense forest. The village holds mythological importance and is birthplace of Lord Parshurama. According to folklore, twelve rivers originate from the pond situated on this hill, including Chambal, Saraswati and Nakheri. The main occupation of local community here is agriculture and animal husbandry. Janapav Kuti is part of Malwa cultural zone, which offers mix of Malavi and Marathi traditions and customs. It is a perfect getaway for nature lovers and trekkers, bicyclists and adventure enthusiasts. The village and its surroundings is blessed with a unique medicinally potent flower that is widely used in Ayurveda. The place is also famous for the fair held every year in the Hindu month of Kartik (October) on Kartik Purnima.
