Dungti , Ladakh

Dungti is a remote village in the eastern Ladakh region of India, located near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. The village is situated at an altitude of over 4,500 meters and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and barren deserts.

Despite its remote location and harsh climate, Dungti is a vibrant village. The villagers are mainly engaged in farming and livestock rearing. They also trade with the neighboring villages and towns.

The village has been electrified and now has access to piped water and other basic amenities. The government has also built a school and a health center in the village.

In June 2023, the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, congratulated the people of Dungti on getting tap water even at -30° C. This was another major achievement for the village, as it meant that the villagers now had access to clean and safe drinking water all year round.
