Drass, a tiny village in the Kargil region of the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh.
It is well-known as the "Gateway to Ladakh" and has the title of being the second-coldest inhabited place on Earth, having a difficult environment and brutal winters.
Village has a gorgeous area surrounded by stunning mountains and attractive landscapes, at a height of around 10,500 ft.
The magnificent scenery, mountain hiking, and adventurous tourist activities like river rafting and climbing are just a few of the latest tourism initiatives that Drass has put out to attract tourists.
During the Kargil War in 1999, the Indian Army effectively blocked Pakistani forces here.
Drass has become an important halting place for travellers going to Leh and Kargil. There is a Tourist compex with Tourist Office and Accommodation blocks. There are a number of Hotels and tea stalls are in Drass. One can have great views of War Time Hill features like Tiger Hill and Tololing from here.
Legendary “Drupati Kund” a sacred pond for Hindus (75 kms from Kargil) on Kargil – Srinager National Highway ia a great attraction for domestic tourists and pilgrims near drass.
5 kms ahead of Drass there is famous place related to Hindu mythology where a rock sculpture is believed to be the solidified body of Bhim.
Drass draws a sizable number of tourists who come to take in its natural beauty, discover the local way of life, and to know the historical significance of the Kargil War.
