Chilkur

Ranga Reddy, Telangana

- Description

Chilkur, also known as Chilkoor, is a village and panchayat in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, India, situated in the Moinabad mandal. It is home to the renowned Chilkur Balaji Temple and Mrugavani National Park. As the largest and most populated village in Moinabad Mandal, Chilkur boasts a rich history spanning over 1500 years. The village was once ruled by the Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Kakatiyas, Qutb Shahis, and Nizams. Post-1948, the Archaeological Department conducted excavations in Chilkur, uncovering numerous ancient inscriptions, which were subsequently transferred to the Golconda Archaeological Museum. These inscriptions reveal the village's historical significance, with many Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain temples, as well as a formidable fort, having been constructed here. Despite invasions that led to the demolition and looting of these temples, structures like the Chenna Keshava and Mallikarjuna temples, along with the fort's Burjus, still stand today.
