Alampur is situated in the Jogulamba-Gadwal district, which is carved out of the erstwhile Mahaboobnagar district of Telangana. Gadwal town is the district headquarters. Alampur is located 60 kms from Gadwal on the banks of River Tungabhadra close to the place where the mighty rivers of Krishna and Tungabhadra merge. The town has a rich pilgrimage and historical importance. Alampur is considered as the western gateway to the Srisailam, the revered Jyotirlinga Shivastalam in Telangana. The town also houses Jogulamba temple, enshrined with Jogulamba devi, one of the eighteen shaktipeeths. It is home to the ancient 7th century CE Navbrahma temples and Sangameshwara temple.
