Gandikota
Gandikota is a village in the Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It's located on the right bank of the Pennar river, 15 km from Jammalamadugu. Gandikota is known for its historical fort and the canyon formed by the Pennar river cutting through the Erramala Hills. The canyon is often compared to the Grand Canyon of Arizona. Tourists call it the "Grand Canyon of India".
The fort was the center of power for many dynasties, including the Kalyani Chalukyas, Pemmasani Nayakas, and the Golconda Sultanate. The Musunuri Kamma Nayakas built Gandikota in the 13th century. The Kamma kings ruled the region for over 300 years.
